10 Rules to enjoying a Relationship
Nowadays, people can more easily define a “basic bitch” than their own relationship status. While the times
With all due respect to Pat Benatar, love doesn’t have to be a battlefield; we all just need to agree on a few basic ground rules. So, whether you’re a guy or a girl, gay or straight, looking for love or just a good lay, here are your 10 commandments of modern dating.
1. Thou Shalt Not Bear False Feelings
Let’s be real here: Are you actually into this person or are you keeping him on the back burner in case nothing better comes along? If it’s the latter, channel your inner Moses and let those people go.
You might hurt his feelings in the moment, but you’ll be doing him a favor in the long run. Trust.
2. Thou Shalt Honor Honesty Above All Else
Ditch the Tough Guy and Cool Girl act already and be yourself. If whomever you’re seeing can’t appreciate the real you, then let it be their loss. Let your freak flag fly!
Someone who really likes you will appreciate your special snowflake-ness above all else. Who knows, you might even a share a few quirks.
3. Thou Shalt Not Judge Based on Superficiality
You’ll only date someone taller than 6’0″? Only be seen with someone smaller than a size 4? Stop picturing what Instagram filter you’ll use and start imagining your day-to-day relationship.
Would you call that person to bitch about your boss? Could your friends survive an entire weekend away with him? Consider these your new baseline requirements.
People will spend .000035 seconds evaluating the hotness of your significant other then go right back to figuring out which “Girls” character they’re most like from a Buzzfeed quiz. That’ll be it.
4. Thou Shalt Have Sex Whenever Thou Is Ready
Buying dinner is not a one-way ticket inside someone’s pants, nor should you expect it to be. In the same regard, waiting until after the stereotypical three dates does not ensure a healthy, long-term relationship.
Go with your gut, and do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. In today’s Tinder-verse, everyone and anyone can get laid if they really want to, so just be real about what you want.
If being that upfront sounds more awkward than waking up next to a stranger, I’d start questioning your logic.
5. Thou Shalt Not Covet The “Timeline”
Ah, the timeline. In a perfect Stepford world, everyone would find the lid to their pot by 22, be married by 26 and pop babies out by 30. Alas, we live in reality. And, by the way, it’s much better out here.
Life is not a race with some imaginary finish line, so stop comparing your journey to everyone else’s. Being a real adult is about finding out what makes you happy and going for it. Everything else will fall into place after that.
6. Thou Shalt Not Take Everything Personally
A very wise friend once wrote, “Ultimately, it is completely possible to be absolutely in love with someone who is wrong for you.” Remember, you are no less valuable just because one individual doesn’t feel the same spike in hormones as you do. They just weren’t the right one.
7. Thou Shalt Believe Those Who Say They Aren’t Interested
They may not always say it outright (see: commandment one), but people who are no longer invested let it be known.
If they ignore you, cancel plans constantly without a valid excuse and generally don’t make you important, they are sending a clear message. Listen up, pay attention and move the frig on.
8. Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery (Sidenote: Also A Real Commandment)
I recently rekindled with an old flame only to learn after our date that he’s already in a serious relationship. Bad move. It’s time for all of us to grow up and be honest with each other. If you’re unhappy in your current relationship, end it before moving on. Case closed.
9. Remember Thine Own Heartbreak
We’ve all been there: the tears, the overindulgence in junk food, the righteous indignation when relaying the story to friends. But do we ever consider the effects when we’re the villains in this scenario?
Not every ex-girlfriend is crazy, not every former boyfriend is an asshole, but we should all take a little responsibility for when we’ve played those roles.
That doesn’t mean whipping ourselves nightly (unless you’re into that sort of thing) or banishing ourselves to a lifetime of loneliness. It just means learning from our past mistakes.
10. Thou Shalt Do Unto Others, As Thou Would Have Them Do Unto You
Feelings are bound to get hurt when emotions are this involved, but it all comes down to Aretha Franklin and her famous spelling bee: R-E-S-P-E-C-T. As long as we can all agree to that, the other commandments will fall into place.

How to be a secondary virgin (II)
![]() |
| Temilolu Okeowo |
My dear daughter Temilolu Oluwakemi,
Your first outing in this New Year-“How to be a secondary virgin” is a real masterpiece. And knowing your pedigree as I do your dear great father- Late Sir Taiwo Okeowo will be musing, clapping and dancing in the “heavenly realms.” What a beautiful heritage! Keep matching on.
Papa (Sir) Godwin O. Adewunmi
Dear Aunty Temilolu,
I am happy to tell you that my wonderful fiancĂ©e remains a virgin at age 28. To be candid, I’m so blessed to have her in my life and we have been in this relationship since 2010 and decided to stay off sex. Please encourage other girls to present themselves as precious gems to the men. Thanks.
Oladayo Okunola
Dear nubile Okeowo,
Once the hymen is sexually torn, the female is forever deflowered; nothing like “secondary virginity.” I strongly submit!
A.JOSHUA
I could almost hear Mr. Joshua screaming his assertion into my ears! I published his mail exactly the way he sent it. And I’ll address his opinion. I daily get a lot of messages and calls from girls, parents and men who share our opinion about virginity. Believe it or not, the male folk would prefer to have a lady who is untouched and unspoiled. So, please stop dulling yourself and sleeping with guys because you are in love. Take it or not, it devalues you! God is the master planner and scripter of this column, He will enlighten us more today.
You’d recall I earlier defined virginity as a state of being untouched, unexplored or unspoiled but I never mentioned the hymen which is a membrane which partially closes the opening of the vagina and whose presence is traditionally taken to be a mark of virginity. The hymen could be torn as a result of sexual intercourse, sports, gynecological reasons and so on. Now, do we call a girl whose hymen is intact but who performs all other acts of ungodly sex a virgin? And on the other hand, there are girls whose hymens have been broken by other means but any form of sexual activity and yet they’ve never kissed a guy. You’d recall a few months back, I stated and in fact wrote an article on chastity beginning from the heart!
I also defined a secondary virgin as a person who, after having engaged in sexual intercourse, makes a commitment not to be sexually active again until marriage. I underlined the above term because it entails all forms of satisfying your body sexually and it all starts from the heart. This is why the first tip I gave on becoming a secondary virgin is MENTAL RENOVATION!
My darling sisters, I know you understand me and have started working on your mind. You just keep at it and watch the wonderful wonder God will make out of your life!
2. PRAYER
Every sexual intercourse carries a heavy spiritual significance and not only creates a covenant that bonds two people together, it forms ungodly soul-ties, transfers a lot of evil and virtues from one life to the other. All of these are one of the devil’s ploys to thwart our glorious destinies. You have to pray for the fullness of the spirit of God to be able to suppress the desires of your flesh and enable you to stick to your decision to become a secondary virgin. You need to pray out all the evil that may have been transferred into your life and recover your lost virtues. You also need to pray to disconnect yourself from your sexual partners. Sigh! Girls…girls…girls…pray, pray ooo! And be holiness personified so that God can answer you quick, quickly! (Please visit my blog). Now, check this out-
“I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one;”
John 17:23
“I” represents Jesus, “thou” represents God. And that we may be made perfect in one! You can be perfect says the one who has the final say over our lives. Beware of wet blankets. Your star must shine o! Start praying!
To be continued
The Girls Club of Nigeria is aimed at influencing a positive change in the female folk and re-orientating the Nigerian girl. Amongst other things, to promote and enhance the development of girls by instilling a sense of self-worth, competence, usefulness, belonging and influence while of course restoring traditional moral values and encouraging the girls to toe the paths of righteousness. If this generation can make amends, the next generation will come out clean. Don’t you think so? I love you all and I think you are all wonderful sisters!

Dear girls,
As designed by God, your virginity is the bedrock of your destiny. It is your spiritual beauty. It carries the star, potential and talent which God created with you to make you unique. It is the star in your sky. Please don’t pollute your destiny. The world is waiting for your star to shine! Your curiosity about sex and the way your body feels is normal. However, there’s so much you need to know which may eventually condition your mind and calm your desires. For now, DON’T dabble into it please.

Voting Buhari, invitation to backwardness –Commissioner
The Attorney General of Ekiti State, Barrister Owoseni Ajayi, has said that voting for the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in next month’s election is a vote for instability and backwardness.
Ajayi said that Nigerians should not be carried away by what he described as Buhari’s latest attempt to act as an agent of change “because the former military ruler is insensitive to Nigeria’s diversity.”
He said in a statement obtained bySaturday PUNCH that if Buhari is allowed to rule Nigeria, he would draw the country back to where it was 25 years ago, while describing the former military ruler as a religious fanatic.
He said, “Nigerians should not forget all his past utterances that are inimical to national progress and stability.
“His narrow-mindedness will portend doom for Nigeria. He is only hungry for leadership without knowing what it entails.”
Ajayi further said that Nigerians should remember what Buhari said during a radio programme with Liberty FM Hausa Service on June 2, 2013.
He said, “Buhari asked the Federal Government to stop the clampdown of Boko Haram insurgents, saying Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished unlike the ‘special treatment’ given to the Niger Delta militants by the Federal Government.
“That was not the only time he spoke against measures against the dreaded Islamic sect. Another story was published in the June 3, 2013 edition of The PUNCH, the headline was, ‘Buhari faults crackdown on Boko Haram.’
“After the 2011 elections, Buhari was quoted by The PUNCH of May 16, 2012 to have said that, ‘God willing, by 2015, something will happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way.
“If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood.”
Ajayi also stated instances where Buhari allegedly executed and jailed some Nigerians when he was the military head of state, adding that the former military leader had no regard for human rights.
He said, “During the Buhari/Idiagbon regime, Decree Number 2 of 1984 empowered Tunde Idiagbon to arrest and detain anybody indefinitely without trial and without legal reprieve. He promulgated the infamous Decree Number 4 which made even the publication of the truth a punishable offence.
“If anyone thinks Buhari has changed, his recent outburst while discussing the $6.8bn fuel subsidy fraud, the N155bn Malabu oil block scam and the N36.8bn police pension scheme gave him away. He said, ‘Just use the documentary evidence and prosecute them and jail them or shoot them.’”
The APC spokesperson, Lai Mohammed, said there was nothing new in what Ajayi said.
He, however, said it was wrong to compare who Buhari was when he was a military ruler to who he is now.
“Ultimately, the choice of who to elect rests on Nigerians; let them decide who they want. You cannot compare who Buhari was when he was a military ruler to a civilian who he is today,” he said.
